I have gotten pretty consistent in allowing my mind to operate with the understanding that I really have no idea what the future holds, so there's no real reason to burden myself with prediction and expectation. I am tremendously optimistic, I hold to positive thinking, I believe that I am truly blessed, and I just trust that I can keep climbing the mountains of life, living powerfully in the moment. So even though I am all these things, and you can be too, neither you nor I really have any idea of what is going to happen tomorrow, much less 5 years from now. So instead of being constrained by what I think should or shouldn't be based on my expectations or predictions, I take the approach that life is really moment by moment. That's not to discount planning or setting goals, its just a thought process that allows me to move forward not matter the circumstances, knowing that my freedom lies in my willingness to make the decisions that I want to make, as long as I'm willing to deal with whatever the fallout is.
GONE ROGUE
And that's how I'm managing to live this free range life that we're living. It's not the most sensible I suppose, but then again, the most sensible things that everyone seems to be doing can often be the most insane things someone can do. That's why I left a job recently, you know, the one that paid the majority of my bills. I just can't do it, y'all. Something within me has snapped, and I've made my next bold move. I've totally stepped out of the box, out of the comfort of having someone else pay me to do work for them. I don't have anyone coming after me to check-in, no one asking for a report or update, at least in terms of an employer. I've gone totally rogue, and I don't want someone else writing my check. I know, even in a service industry, someone will pay me, or when I play music, someone will pay me...I recognize that. However, the buck (both literally and figuratively) stops with me in my own businesses. That's how I've wanted it for a long time, it's just taken some time to brave up and dare the jump. And oh what a jump it has been.

SO WE LOADED UP THE TRUCK AND MOVED TO TENNESSEE
As if picking up and moving my family to Nashville to chase this music dream wasn't enough, let's start another business to pay the bills while I build my music career. On top of it all, our landlord has refused to fix our upstairs AC unit over the last month. So now, we're having to decide if we're going to legally break our lease. It gets pretty warm up there when it's in the mid 90s here in Nashvegas. Even if we don't break our lease early, we have 3 days to decide if we're going to renew our lease which ends at the end of August. That commitment brings certain responsibilities...like...paying the rent, and feeding 5 kids (yes, we're done). In case you have a short memory, please see the paragraph above when I discuss the job situation. Oh btw, I have less than 60 days to generate an income for my family that will presumably pay our bills.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Tomorrow, I'm going into the studio. We're working on some songs that I'm really excited about, and I will soon be releasing "The Demo Sessions." You are going to get a small taste of what I'm working on! I am also beginning to play at events beyond the songwriter nights I've been playing occasionally. I have a couple of writing appointments this week with some GREAT writers, and I have a current song that I wrote recently with 2 other amazing writers that is being pitched to a major label in town. So in all of THIS...life...I'm excited about what's happening with my music and art.

LASER FOCUSED
There is so much going on, but I am finding myself exceptionally focused, laser-focused to be exact. In fact, I've really kind of simplified life right now to Make Money, Make Art, & Make Memories with My Family. Life is full and I'm engaged. There are some things that are way beyond my ability, but that's okay, I'm still moving forward. It's times like these that the circumstances of life ask me the question, "How serious are you?" It's a question that can only be truly answered by the actions that I take to reveal my commitment, and it's there. |
NO LONGER FEAR
Life is too short to play scared. They say that a man who no longer fears death is a very dangerous man. I might add that a man who no longer fears failure sets himself up for a chance at greatness. And isn't that what life is really about? It's not about winning or losing. It's not about failure or success. It's about living a full, and GREAT life. And the only way that happens is if you're willing to make the next bold move...
