Let me tell you a story about this song. 2.5 years ago, my world changed. I previously spent several years in Nashville, trying to “make it” as an artist. After a couple of possible record deals fell through, I decided to leave town and pursue other things in life. Then, a few years ago, I started asking myself what it is that I really want out of life, and I realized that everything I’ve ever wanted was connected to music, singing, writing, creating, and performing.
So 2.5 years ago… I sold the house, picked up the family, moved from Texas back to Nashville, and completely started over in life. As many people as I’ve had had tell me how much they admire my courage and willingness to pursue the dream again, I’ve also had my share of people who think I’m crazy, irresponsible, and reckless. In fact, the further this goes, the more people I have stepping out of the shadows to pass their opinions and judgments. But you know what? It’s none of my business what other people think about what I’m doing.
So here is this song… and it’s about as real as it gets. This is a song about me standing on the ledge of life, looking at the dream, and trying to decide if I’m REALLY going to go for the life I want to live, or if I’m just going to stay here and die. And this song is as “unplugged” as it gets. This was recorded in my living room, not in the studio. It was recorded in one shot and has not been touched in any way. No pitch correction, no mixing…absolutely raw. Just me, a guitar, and my song.
I hope this song speaks to you. I hope it moves you to chase the dream in your heart, the thing that brings you life. No matter how big or how small it is, you only get ONE SHOT in life to go for it. Thanks to those of you who cheer me on and support my music. And to those who don’t understand the chase, I hope you some day find the space in your life to go get your’s.
